The Firm

Lockhart Legal was established on 1st October 2009 by Mason Lockhart on his return to New Zealand after working as a Senior Legal Advisor for Heineken International in Amsterdam. In February 2011, Lockhart Legal acquired the practice of Derek Cutting & Co and the practice shifted from Newton to its current location at 31-33 Great South Road. Lockhart Legal acquired the practices of David Thwaite in May 2012 and John Sellers in July 2015. The firm also continues to enjoy rapid organic growth thanks to recommendations by our many satisfied clients.

Our firm is committed to remaining small enough to provide a personal service, but sufficiently resourced to provide pragmatic legal advice in our main areas of expertise. Josh Muir

Josh has a strong commercial background in advising clients on property developments, unit title developments, subdivisions and assisting body corporates with issues relating to unit titles.  He is also experienced in commercial leasing, general property conveyancing, estate planning as well as trust formation and administration.

Since his admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2010, Josh has practiced law at two well-known Auckland firms, before moving to Lockhart Legal. He is proud to have been made director of Lockhart Legal in 2019.

Josh takes an open and transparent approach to practising law and his primary focus is to assist his clients find legal solutions efficiently, pragmatically and cost-effectively.

Outside of work Josh keeps busy going to the gym, and playing and watching sport, especially golf. Other than golf, his family is his main focus!

Josh is married to his childhood sweetheart and they live with their beloved dog, Maggie, in the gorgeous seaside village of Devonport.
