our team

The commitment, experience and ability of our team enables the firm to deal with complex work in addition to our client's day-to-day legal needs.

The Firm

Lockhart Legal was established on 1st October 2009 by Mason Lockhart on his return to New Zealand after working as a Senior Legal Advisor for Heineken International in Amsterdam. In February 2011, Lockhart Legal acquired the practice of Derek Cutting & Co and the practice shifted from Newton to 31-33 Great South Road. Lockhart Legal acquired the practices of David Thwaite in May 2012 and John Sellers in July 2015. In March 2021 the practice moved to Level 1, 7 Owens Road, in Epsom.

In June 2017 Josh Muir joined the firm and injected a new commercial client base. Josh joined Mason as a director and shareholder of Lockhart Legal in April 2019.

The firm continues to enjoy strong organic growth thanks to recommendations and referrals from Mason and Josh’s loyal clients.

Lockhart Legal is committed to remaining small enough to provide personal service, but sufficiently resourced to provide pragmatic legal advice in our main areas of expertise. The commitment, experience and ability of our team enables the firm to deal with both complex work as well as satisfying our clients' day-to-day legal needs.

Lucy Hutsby

Legal Administrator

Lucy Hutsby

Lucy joined the firm in September 2020 having had various legal administration roles since 2015 both on a full-time and temporary basis. For Lucy no two days are the same at Lockhart Legal due to the variety of work that comes her way. She enjoys the new challenges and to be constantly learning.

She qualified with a New Zealand Diploma in Legal Executive Studies in December 2019 through Open Polytechnic and is currently studying part-time for a Bachelor's Degree in Business.

In her spare time Lucy reviews video games for a blog and spends time with her family. She is an avid pedestrian, so enjoys utilising local walking tracks.

Aptly her life motto is 'never stop learning'.
